2nd Annual Festa Junina

A Brazilian Folk Festival

Viva Brasil Association in St. Louis is a non-profit organization with the vision of promotion the Brazilian culture in the greater St. Louis area.

Viva Brasil STL is organizing a festival that is very important to the Brazilian culture; it is called “Festa Junina.”

Below are a few bullet points which describe the festival:

·         Festa Junina dates back to Portuguese colonization commemorates Saint Anthony, Saint John, and Saint Peter and markets the end of summer and beginning of the harvest.

·         After Carnival, Festa Junina is the second most popular celebration in Brazilian culture

·         Those attending the festival will be treated to delicious typical food, will experience people dressed as farmers, enjoy bonfires and dance the Quadrilha.

·         Quadrilha folk dances are a vital component of Fest Junina. The dances include up to 30, colorfully dressed performers. Inspiration for these dances is taken from the 17th century French quadrilles, a type of traditional square dance, while the Brazilian adaptations are more complex.
