International Institute shares new resettlement figures
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The International Institute has came out with new numbers of Syrian refugees that are coming to St. Louis.
Senior Vice President for Programs Suzanne LeLaurin says from January through the end of August, they will have settled about 225 Syrian refugees.
“Almost all of the Syrians we’re resettling are families. Husband, wife and children,” LeLaurin says. “Many of them are very large families, so they might have four or five children. But they are two parent households.”
LeLaurin says all of those coming here have gone through a 13 step vetting process by the federal government that includes: security checks, interviews, fingerprinting and retina scans.
